The Festa del Redentore on Monte Giarolo

The Festa del Redentore on Monte Giarolo is a tradition that dates back to the early 20th century. It all began on August 11, 1901, with the inauguration of the first statue of the Redeemer, erected to commemorate the 19th centenary of Christ's birth. A hundred years later, the statue was replaced with a new one, but the ritual remains unchanged. That inaugural year, the Bishop of Tortona led a diocesan pilgrimage attended by some 12,000 faithful. To this day, every first Sunday of August, tourists and worshippers gather at the summit to honor this cherished tradition.
